The Client

Amicus Law Logo

Amicus Law is a leading solicitor with 9 offices across the south-west of England, offering legal advice and solutions for personal and business clients.

With offices scattered across diverse locations, Amicus Law recognised the need for a network infrastructure that not only streamlined operations but also fostered scalability and resilience.

Partnering with Nexus, their managed IT services partner, Amicus Law embarked on a journey to revolutionise their connectivity framework, catalysing efficiency and growth.

Replacing an MPLS Private WAN: The Challenge

Amicus Law initially relied on a traditional MPLS solution for network connectivity, which, while secure, lacked the agility and scalability demanded by their expanding business footprint.

The rigidity of the MPLS setup posed significant challenges, particularly in integrating new sites seamlessly and accommodating the evolving needs of a modern law firm. This, combined with their increased cloud adoption and the transition to softphones, highlighted the inadequacy of their existing infrastructure in meeting current demands.

The Solution: Leased Line WAN

Nexus orchestrated a comprehensive overhaul of Amicus Law’s WAN infrastructure, introducing a new era of connectivity geared up for flexibility, resilience, and enhanced performance.

This revamped architecture not only facilitated smoother Teams access and cloud utilisation but also laid the groundwork for future scalability and adaptability. By prioritising redundancy and failover mechanisms, Nexus mitigated the risk of downtime, empowering Amicus Law to operate with improved reliability.

Outcome

By re-designing their internet connectivity, Amicus Law now feels more confident and flexible in dealing with the fast-paced legal world in which they operate. They can adapt more easily to changes and are in a better position to add new offices and expand with ease. Their new set up also offers the possibility of investigating alternative practice management systems, should they outgrow their existing platform.

The transition to leased lines also meant Amicus’s staff had access to faster connectivity, resulting in greater productivity and collaboration. Embracing the ethos of innovation, Nexus are now in the testing phase of technologies such as content filtering and Deep Packet Inspection (DPI). This offers granular visibility into network traffic, meaning Amicus Law can pinpoint unusually high uses of bandwidth across their users. Content filtering allows Amicus Law to prioritise critical business applications by limiting access to bandwidth-intensive or non-essential websites and content.

This optimisation ensures that network resources are allocated efficiently, leading to smoother performance for essential tasks. These new solutions also offer increased security; DPI enables detailed analysis of network traffic at the packet level, providing administrators with comprehensive insights into data flows, protocols, and application usage. This granular visibility means as their IT partner we can identify and address potential security threats, performance bottlenecks, and policy violations more effectively.

By adding extra security measures and continuing to work closely with Nexus for ongoing support, Amicus Law shows how serious they are about protecting their digital information and making sure they can protect against any new cyber risks that evolve. Amicus Law are now working with Nexus on their Cyber Essentials Plus Certification, further enhancing their cyber security resilience.
