As a business, we’re committed to supporting local causes in any way we can; in fact, one of our core values is ‘supportive’ and it goes beyond just supporting our clients, we’re passionate about supporting this beautiful region on our doorstep.
We’ve been operating in Exeter for over 25 years, and most of our team call the South West their home, so we decided to choose a charity that is region-centric.
Hospiscare was a natural choice for us. Hospiscare is a Devon-based charity providing compassionate care for individuals with life-limiting illnesses. Broadly covering mid and East Devon, they offer medical, emotional, and practical support to enhance patients’ quality of life. Their team of healthcare professionals and volunteers focuses on managing symptoms, providing psychological aid, and facilitating end-of-life discussions. Hospiscare’s holistic approach ensures comprehensive care, promoting dignity and respect throughout the challenging journey of terminal illness.
After choosing the Nexus charity of the year, we then jumped into action to do what we can to raise money for this very worthy cause and here’s what we got up to across 2023:
Men’s Walk
In March, several members of our team enthusiastically participated in the annual Men’s Walk organised by Hospiscare, held right here in Exeter. The event spans a scenic 7-mile route across the city, encouraging everyone to join and contribute to fundraising for the charity. We are thrilled to share that this year’s event garnered an astonishing £122,000, a testament to the community’s generous support and commitment to Hospiscare’s invaluable work.
Even more of our team will be donning their walking boots again this March, as we continue to support this fantastic event.
Big Wave Games
We were delighted to headline sponsor the Big Waves Games in Exeter this year. The Big Wave Games is set up and run by Bigwave Marketing. The event aims to bring local businesses together to socialise, network and participate in a range of exciting physical, mental and social activities. At the core of the event is a fundraising ethos, and each team helps to raise money for local charities. This year the Exeter 2023 games raised money for Hospiscare, which is why we felt it was the perfect choice for us to not only take part in, but also be the headline sponsor.
This year the Bigwave Games in Exeter raised over £6,000 for Hospiscare. To continue our support of both the games and our chosen charity, we’re excited to take up the headline sponsorship position again for 2024!
Three Peaks Challenge
Our team of around 50 people are quite an adventurous bunch and always up for taking on new challenges, especially when there is a good cause to support too. So, in October this year, three of our team members took on the mighty Three Peaks challenge.
Alex Moir, John Eveleigh and Joshua Anderson trained hard across the summer and on the weekend of the 14th and 15th of October they completed the Three Peaks challenge in under 24 hours. Climbing the three highest peaks; Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, and Snowdon in Wales, the challenge was one of both strength, endurance and teamwork.
We were seriously impressed with our super team for taking this on and smashing the challenge and in doing so they raised a whopping £3860 for Hospiscare.
Nexus Presents: Brilliance donation
In celebration of our 25th year anniversary in 2023 we held an all-day business conference for professionals and business owners across the region. We featured talks from global tech leaders such as Dell Technologies and Kaseya, combined with local successes such as the Met Office. Delegates came away with a wealth of knowledge and insight covering topics across tech tools and software, cyber and AI and business and culture.
This was a ticketed event, but with our aim of just covering our costs, we donated our profits to Hospiscare, which resulted in a £500 donation on the day of the event.
Hospiscare 40 Club
In alignment with our commitment to supporting Hospiscare, we’re proud to announce our membership in the Hospiscare 40 Club. We’re thrilled to join this awesome group of businesses founded to raise money to mark Hospiscare’s 40th anniversary in 2022. Each member business commits to raise at least £1,000 to support Hospiscare’s vital care for more than 2,500 terminally ill patients and their families in Exeter, Mid, and East Devon. It’s not just a club, it’s a community effort to make a real difference, with many members smashing their fundraising targets. We’re proud to be part of this group and look forward to contributing to the continued compassionate care that Hospiscare provides now and in the future. Following the success of its first year in 2022, this club has continued across 2023.
What a Year!
What an incredible year it’s been for our fundraising efforts in support of Hospiscare! Every activity we’ve taken part in has been an absolute blast, not only allowing us to contribute to this fantastic charity but also providing our team with countless team-building adventures. From the laughs of bubble football to the heights of clip and climb, the camaraderie forged during middle-of-the-night hikes, and the simple joy of sharing a pasty after a long walk – we’ve truly strengthened our bonds. Our connection with the amazing Hospiscare team, especially the fantastic Ellie Williams, has been a highlight. Her outstanding support for businesses like ours has made our partnership even more meaningful. We’re excited to announce that Hospiscare will remain our chosen charity for 2024, and we can’t wait to dive into another year of exciting fundraising events!
