Reflecting on 2021

As we approach the end of another busy year at Nexus, our Managing Director, Stuart Wilson, reflects on the past twelve months and would like to share a few words:

With the arrival of the festive season, who would have thought we’d still be living with the chaos caused by the pandemic. Every time we think it will get better, another variant appears, threatening many of the freedoms we take for granted, including the annual Christmas party!

Thankfully, Nexus adopts a very agile approach and can react quickly to changing conditions. Currently, we’re working in a hybrid way with most of our team able to work from home with flexible expectations for them to regularly work in the office. This has worked very well so far and helped us to realise that, whilst there are benefits to working from home, bringing people together into a communal workplace also has many advantages for the operation of the business and our people, particularly in relation to the impact on team development. We continue to monitor and adapt to suit the prevailing economic conditions and the needs of our staff and clients. The cherry on the cake of our efforts to make Nexus an inviting place to work, was being crowned ‘Best Place to Work’ at the Western Morning News Business Awards last week!

This year, we’ve been nominated as finalists for a number of other awards including ‘Business Services’ for our own cloud backup and business continuity/disaster recovery solution incorporating Veeam. We became one of only four Veeam Accredited Service Partners in the UK and have our very own ‘Veeam Legend’, which is testament to the skills and capability within our technical team.

One of our proudest achievements this year was achieving the ISO27001 information security certification, and we’ve just successfully completed our second audit. As a managed IT service provider, we take security of all information very seriously, so this certification demonstrates our commitment and expertise in this area and reassures our clients that their data is safe with us.

Of course, we can’t do any of this stuff without the dedication and a lot of hard work from all our great people. It’s only because of them that we’ve achieved so much. I’ll say it again – it’s all about the people! So a huge thank you goes out to our wonderful Nexus team.

Our final thanks go to our clients, without whom we wouldn’t be here, striving to give the best service we can. This year has seen a significant increase in positive feedback from our clients, which is hugely gratifying and makes the job so much more enjoyable for our support staff. It really means a lot to all of us to hear from you with your thoughts on your experience with us, so if you’re able to take the time to offer a few words when you have received notable service (good or bad), we value every single one of your comments. If you’re not happy with our service, your feedback is used to carefully review what we do – for us, it’s an opportunity to improve!

Of course, sometimes things go wrong, and this year has been complicated by higher call volumes, lockdowns and numerous declarations of self-isolation amongst our staff which obviously impacts our resource availability. We would particularly like to thank all our clients for their patience and continued support throughout what has been another challenging year for both them and us.

I hope all of our clients, colleagues and their families, partners and friends have a happy, healthy and safe Christmas and we look forward to continuing to support you in the New Year!
