IT support business Nexus delivered their first in a series of thought leadership events at the Exeter Golf and Country Club on the 20th of April, attracting business leaders from across the Southwest.
Nexus will be hosting these across the year as free events, delivering insight and actionable take-aways to business owners and managers across the region.
The first event focused on ‘resiliency’ and welcomed speakers across HR, mental health and technology.
Each speaker delivered an engaging talk, pulling from both personal and business experience to provide inspiring ideas for the audience to use to boost their own resiliency at home and in the workplace.
Attendees were welcomed with tea, coffee, and a selection of delicious pastries as they arrived, whilst some great pre-event networking took place.
The first session then kicked off with Jo Caine, Managing Director of leading south-west recruitment agency Cathedral Appointments.
Jo revealed incredible insight into recruiting the best talent and explained how employer branding can have a significant impact on future success. Jo also offered her experienced view on what employees look for in terms of a valued company benefits package.
Amy Erith from Step One, the Exeter-based mental health charity, followed Jo speaking all about stress, how to manage it, and the effect mismanagement could have on a business. Amy provided several useful tips on how to support employees that may be struggling, ensuring a positive work culture and, in turn, a company that thrives.
Event sponsors Triangle Networks were up next. They supply dependable full-fibre internet connectivity to businesses. We heard from Josh Butler who talked about ‘the Big Switch Off’ of the traditional phone network, which is happening in December 2025. Josh spoke of the significant impact on businesses who haven’t yet prepared for it, as well as the importance of a backup connection for your main line.
Business Development Manager Glenn Weeks from Nexus rounded the morning off and talked about resiliency in IT and how data, people and infrastructure should all be considered when safeguarding a business. He also busted some myths around back up and told us what could happen if a business has not got a disaster recovery plan in place.
Guests were then welcome to stay on for some further networking and refreshments.
The feedback from the event was great with many delegates sharing their resiliency-based insights and tips on social media.
Following this success, Nexus have confirmed that Nexus Presents will be returning in July at the Exeter Golf and Country Club, with a new theme and a new line-up of fantastic speakers.
